About:

Screenwriter, novelist, creative developer & producer across traditional & new media projects. Mike has particular expertise in interactive, episodic & multi-platform development & is an authority on Horror, Scifi & Thriller genres. In 2012 he received an Australian Writers Guild award for his feature horor screenplay ‘Ashes’ & has been previously awarded a trio of national prizes for online & multiplatform productions. He is a much sought after speaker and lecturer, delivering compelling and highly energetic presentations on narrative and screen media experiences.

Mike is Head of Story for Portal Entertainment UK, developing interactive genre narratives and is co-author, with best-selling novelist Alan Gold, of a forthcoming trilogy of political/historical thriller novels for publisher Simon & Schuster. 

His current project slate includes overseeing interactive productions ‘The Craftsman’ ‘Dead Mans Tracks’ and ‘Blackout’ for Portal, developing the feature horror film ‘Ashes’, serving as story-editor on the post-apocalyptic adventure series ‘Wastelander Panda’ and authoring a new crime-fiction novel set in depression-era Sydney.

Mike is an assessor and project mentor for funding & development agencies in Australia and overseas and serves as co-ordinator for the Immersive Writing Lab project in the UK.

He is a lecturer in screen studies at the Australian Film TV & Radio School where he co-developed the world’s first graduate program in WebTV series development. He has written more than 200 published articles and has lectured internationally on screenmedia development. He is produced & award winning playwright, journalist & former editor for the Australian national playwright’s centre.

In recent years Mike’s industry-focused lectures and public presentations have included the Australian National Screenwriters conference, Australian International Documentary Conference, the Futurebook and London Literary conferences, London Transmedia Fest, SPAAFringe and a special event at the 2012 Sydney Film Festival on interactive storytelling to a packed house. 

Aside from writing, Mike is an award-winning photographer & video editor. He has worked on numerous short films, documentaries, exhibitions, music videos & video-art projects and his creative production work as been shown in festivals and galleries in Australia and overseas. Mike was formerly manager of the Vectorlab digital media studios at Australia’s largest museum, the Powerhouse and this role developed his rich expertise in digital multi-platform development
